REDEVELOPMENT IN ALEXANDRAS AVENUE ( REFUGEE COMPLEXES– FOOTBALL FIELD - KOUNTOURIOTIKA ) LINARDOS GIORGOS

The selection criteria for the project area on both sides of Alexandras ave, are the potential created by the removal of the football field and challenge offered for the design of a way to link the two urban spaces.

The proximity of the area to green – open spaces of supralocal character and uses of Public Administration and Retail Commerce in conjunction with the strong residential function encourages a soft redevelopment in a familiar, safe and approachable and user-friendly way.

The objective of redevelopment is the linkage of the areas of historical memory ( Kountouriotika – Refugee Complex ) through a pedestrian way with the prospect to extend it towards Lycabettus – Tourkovounia hills. The allocation of the sports facilities for educational purposes and the specification of uses of the area created by the relocation of the football field.

The interventions envisaged in order to attain the objectives, concern also lowering Alexandras Ave., related traffic interventions, expropriation of abandoned residences, creation of pedestrian ways, creation of a public square in the space of the football field with commercial and cultural activities and the re-organization of sports facilities.
