"Children - game - space, the Pikioni 's children garden in Filothei" Moulaki Georgia - Tsivouraki Maria

The starting-point of our project is about the way children perceive space and how us, as future architects, we could give to them spaces that include principles of learning and recreation.

Children touch, continually, their limits of capability to intervene in the objective reality. Inside of their games, children modify, temporarily and fictively, their space with procedures of informal rearrangement. In conclusion, we have a complex relation between child, playing and space. We can assume that space composes the material support of development of playing. On the contrary, playing infects the forms and the aims of intervention on space.

Consequently, we decide to examine the relation between child and space, thought the action of playing because of two reasons. Firstly, playing is the main action for a child and secondly, we believe that a child can modify any space to a playing space.

The first part of our project includes a theoretical approach of playing, through social and humanistic sciences. This process gave us the means to choose the “children’s park at Philothei”, an architectural project of Dimitris Pikionis.
