"Welcome to the desert of reality… , the example of clubs" Katerina Spathi

The subject of this essay is the “exploration” of clubs. In other words, its goal is to discover:

a)         The reasons of clubs’ massive appearance

b)         What clubs can offer to their clients

c)         Which needs they came to fulfill

and finally to examine the purposes that are served by their architectural design.

Clubs are a phenomenon as much economical and social as a “phenomenon” of space. That is why I decided to present, also, the financial data of modern world and their consequences to modern culture.

In addition, I explore the meanings of sight, sound , picture and light and their significance to the architectural design of a club’s space. Afterwards I make an attempt to compare club and theatre.

Finally I refer to some examples of clubs around the world and I close the essay with the conclusions of this research and my opinion on the subject.
