"The cultural and bioclimatic profile of the covered atrium" Chariklia Aletra - Zoi Mpisilla

Our dissertation is trying to study mainly, from an energy point, the architectural element of the covered atrium. For this study, it was needed to search its cultural profile that begins from ancient Greek architecture till today. As well, we considered as necessary to show the new benefits, but also the problems that occur with its implementation in relation with its ancestor, the courtyard.

Afterwards, our target was to study the basic design parameters for the right bioclimatic function of the covered atrium, for every climate and for every use.

Finally, sparked off the visit and stay for one semester in the city of Glasgow, of the one member of our team, we wanted to study two buildings with covered atrium in this area and two more buildings in Greece. Through this study, we are trying to criticize how much their design is appropriate for the climate of each region, based on the theory about bioclimatic design that we have analyzed earlier.
