"The artificial lighting in Architecture" Papakammenou Vassiliki

The aim of the research is to evaluate the artificial lighting, in such areas, in order to succeed the high optical quality and comfort for the people who use the building. To make this possible, we must take into consideration some elements.and also the specifications, which affect the artificial light. It is especially examined the possibility to include the electrical lighting in the architectural design, with the aim to light the buildings and create a enchanting environment of the city, even during the night.

After the invention of the electricity, not only people but also buildings live at night. The last 130 years, from 1876 and on, there has been made a huge progress at the field of the artificial lighting. As a last innovation, we can refer into, a new lamp, in a smaller size but with a bigger result, with the use of the color in light and the possibility of the movement of the light.

During the research, I represent some designing principles, which can be used to light the faηade of a building. The lighting designer – architect, is asked to design the volume of the light and create a nice environment between the light and the volume of the building, in connection with architecture and lighting. Indeed, what we already know about light and architecture, are asked to be combined with knowledge on history, colour, psychology, physics, geometry, mathematics and ecology.

In conclusion, in the research I present some monuments of the city and I evaluate them, using the designing principles that I have supported so far  considering the lighting designing results.
