"Spacial characteristics of the Schools of Fine Arts" Theodoros Themistokleous, Pantelidou Pantelitsa

Our experience as students of architectural school was the main cause of genesis of continuous reflection with regard to the nature of educational process and the architectural expression of such a school, which does not belong neither in the field of unmixed theoretical education, but also not the unmixed practical education. We realized that exist two types of knowledge and our reflection were focused in the way that combines and participates the two cognitive regions, theory and practice at the educational process, but also in this two cognitive regions, as methods of education.

We search the two cognitive regions, theory and practice, as a dipole that influences and shapes the educational process and the spatial expression of such a school. For this aim we selected to investigate an extreme form of school, the school of fine arts.

The research moved temporally by the times where were presented the first organized academies, up to today and are separated in three individual units: a) the initial academies that first established in embryonic form during the Middle Ages, b) the Bauhaus school and Ecole des Beaux - Arts, as two extreme examples c) the current schools as hybrids of previous faculties Bauhaus and Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
