"Public libraries" Popovic Marko

The first part of the work consists of a brief historical flashback in the field of libraries, together with the typology and the main issues regarding the design of libraries. Also in this part is discussed the future of the libraries, together with a short presentation of mediatheques, digital libraries and the winners of the 1998 ACADIA International Design Competition “Libraries for the Information Age”. The second part of the work focuses on public libraries using historical facts and presenting the today’s situation. There is also a report on the situation of public libraries in Greece. At the end we take a close look on five examples of public libraries from abroad: Munster City Library, Peckham Public Library, Tonsberg Public Library, Usera Public Library, Robertson Branch Library
