"Problems of evaluation and criticism of the architecture of public spaces in Athens" Bosmi Evaggelia

It is a common conclusion that usually and in a high percentage, architects have a different conception about what is architecture with other people who actually use and live in architectural spaces.

So as to analyze this situation we use specific architectural examples with an important role in the Greek Capital. “Megaron” concert Hall, “Fix” facroty, the “Zappeion” area and “Omonoia” square are the examples taken in consideration. Any kind of publications referred to these architectural examples were collected and a leaflet with a series of questions about them was distributed both to students of architecture and non- architects.

Furthermore, after having made some conclusions out of the given answers, a series of interviews took place so as to be led to a general opinion about the sector of creating public spaces in Athens. Mr Chris Papoutsakis, publisher of “Anti” magazine, architects Argiris Rokas, Ariadni Vozani, Memos Filipidis and Vaggelis Stilianidis, ex-president of  Technical Chamber of Greece Nikos Desillas and the director of National Mouseum of Modern Art Anna Kafetsi speak about the communication between architects and users of architecture and describe their personal views and experiences.

As a final result, general conclusions and thoughts were made concerning public Greek architecture, the factors associated with it and the way that architects and users communicate through the public spaces of Athens.
