Mathilde’s Misses
[ docwerkers ]

Valentine’s Day 2009, Belgium is taken by suprise: in Brussels, Aline and Mathilde announce the world’s very first “Miss Homeless” pageant. On October 10th of the same year, the winner will be elected – she will win one rent-free year.

This controversial pageant drew the international press. Film director Pieter De Vos decided to go beyond the initial buzz. For eighteen months, during and after the pageant, he accompanied the participating homeless women and depicted their personal stories. He started this heartfelt project in true guerilla style, without a budget.

This has resulted in a raw but true portrait of a few women living in the margin of society.
